The SAXON STEEL was part of a portfolio of three designs which essentially used a common hull shape and form but with differing deck styles and arrangements. There two types of keel arrangements which are interchangeable. They were developed directly from the R.W.31 with the Saxon Steel being the first. All have proved successful in long distance voyaging.
The keel types available include a long cruising keel or a long central keel with twin bilge plates. A more modern deep fin with skeg hung rudder, could be an alternative as drawings from the sister ships’ are available. The aft cockpit, traditional appearance of the SAXON STEEL features accommodation for up to seven in three separate cabins (which includes four sea berths) plus usual offices of generous toilet/shower, chart table and ‘U’ shaped galley.
Engines in the 40-50 hp range are recommended
